One More Operator 0.6.2 beta

http://www.kaply.com/operator/operator.xpi

I added a few more features, so I need more testing. After this, I am totally feature frozen for the 0.6.2 release.

New features include:

  • Operator now follows the bookmarks toolbar conventions for opening new windows and tabs. This includes:
    • Opening links in the current window by default
    • Middle click opens in a background tab
    • Shift+click opens in a new window
    • Ctrl/Ctrl+Shift open in a new tab based on the hidden preference browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInBackground (which is the opposite of Select new tabs opened from links – see my previous post)
  • When you are in microformats mode with all handlers and have debug mode on, you get an additional menutem called “Debug” that displays the source and internal representation of the microformat (no more keystrokes)
  • Selecting an invalid microformat displays error and source in the same window
  • If you right click on a microformat, the microformat handlers show up on the context menu
  • I have added an experimental feature for highlighting microformats that can be turned on in preferences. Not only does it highlight microformats when you hover over them, when you select microformats in any Operator menu, they are highlighted on the page. Please give me feedback on this item.

Thanks again for your support!

I like it a lot! Especially the new context-menu option. The highlighting option is also cool.

The highlighting option is really cool! Also very timely, I was just drafting a blog post about the need for displaying microformat detection in-page. As usual, fantastic work.

I think I would prefer highlighting to be more subtle – perhaps changing the cursor, as the link-alert extension http://conlan89.googlepages.com/linkalert does. Once again, the choice between these two preferences could be user-configured.

This seems a good a time as any to thank you for your sterling work on this excellent tool; and especially for being so ready to consult and take on board users’ suggestions.

I had an idea for an action on hCards — have an option to open the Wikidentity http://wikidentity.com/ client on the current page if hCards are detected!

I have used the Operator extension to test tags that I have put in some of my subsites. I have found that while Operator can pick up tags for addresses like http://www.x.com, it has trouble with addresses like http://www.x.com/subsite/righthere.html. Can this be corrected, or have I simply set the options on Operator incorrectly?

Per the tag spec, an address like http://www.x.com/subsite/righthere.html is not a valid tag to parse.

    See:

    http://microformats.org/wiki/rel-tag#Tag_Spaces

    I know it’s confusing, but it’s the spec….

Per your IRC request: there’s a logo in the hCard at the foot of http://www.westmidlandbirdclub.com/new.htm, using include-pattern.

(feel free to delete this unpubilshed)

The highlight feature is great, but the outline is always black, which make it invisible on pages with black background.

How about display an icon on the left-top corner of the outline? The green icons on operator toolbar would be a nice choice.

    BTW,
“Export contact” doesm’t work with my Fx 2.0.0.1 on Ubuntu 6.10, I’ll try if it works on WinXP.
