Excellent news about the Operator resumption. I am convinced that microformats will have an important role in relevance for Google. I am especially interested in some kind of Wordpress plugin which could have similar functionality. A toolbar is good but delivering the same functionality on-site for those without the tool would be even more useful.

Cheers

I present on Microformats frequently at Higher Education Web Conferences, and encourage the use of the Operator extension (and a donation). Thank you for helping the community! I did notice that Google Calendar must be changing how it accepts event information. Operator used to work, but now it does not show date and time. Nothing critical, but it was something I noticed.

This is awesome news, it's great to hear that you will still work on Operator :)

One wish for the new Operator: I would love to see some basic <a href="http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/microdata.html" rel="nofollow">Microdata</a> support.

It's great to know that you're still working on Operator. Please let me know if you need me to repeat or expand on any of my previous bug reports or feature suggestions; or carry out any alpha/ beta testing.

I'd love for Operator to be able to look for microformat data _inside_ an XBL widget. For example, the app I'm working on (not FOSS, alas) has an XBL widget for picking a person, and another for picking an address. Currently if I want to expose any microformat data about the selected person, I have to insert hidden fields into the main form of the application, where they don't really belong.

I'd like to be able to insert the fields within the XBL content, and perhaps have a single attribute on the XBL-bound element to flag to Operator that it should look "inside" the widget for data. Operator could then use document.getAnonymousNodes() with the flagged widget as a parameter, then parse the returned content for microformat data.

Yes, it's very XUL specific (at least until XBL2 gets ratified), but it would also make Operator a quick and easy way to extend XUL apps as well as HTML pages.
